Celebrate The Famous Mojito!

National Mojito Day is July 13

A crisp and refreshing Mojito is the perfect defense against the blazing heat that plagues the northern hemisphere in the middle of July. This wonderful cocktail is made with white rum, lime juice, club soda, superfine sugar, mint, and crushed ice.

How to Mix a Famous Mojito

The Famous Mojito

With National Mojito Day on July 13, it would seem logical that the Mojito would be a crisp and refreshing choice for a cocktail. The Mojito is a traditional Cuban highball cocktail that meets those requirements. The ingredients need to make a famous Mojito are: white rum, sugar, lime juice, soda water, and mint.

  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 2 tsp superfine sugar
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • 12 mint leaves
  • 5 mint sprigs for garnish
  • 2 oz white rum
  • 1 oz club soda
  1. Stir together the Stir lime juice and superfine sugar until sugar dissolves.

  2. Add 1/4 cup of crushed ice.

  3. Rub the mint leaves on the rim of the glass then tear them in half and add to the glass.

  4. Stir gently for 15 seconds.

  5. Add the white rum to the mix in the glass.

  6. Gently add the remaining crushed ice.

  7. Top the cocktail with club soda; you can also use seltzer.

Johnnie Walker Black Label

An Iconic Whisky from John Walker & Sons is the only way to describe Johnnie Walker Black Label.

It is rich, complex and incredibly well-balanced, full of dark fruits, sweet vanilla and signature smokiness. Blended exclusively from whiskies matured for at least 12 years, it brings together flavors from the four corners of Scotland to create an experience that is complex, deep and rewarding.

This delicious scotch whisky rolls decadently over the tongue, releasing intense sweet vanillas that give way to orange zest and aromas of spice and raisins. The finish is unbelievably smooth and layered with rich smoke, peat and malt.

How To Serve

Enjoy Johnnie Walker Black Label in any way you like - on its own, with a dash of water, or in your favorite cocktail.

We recommend that it be used when you mix an Old Fashioned.

Without a doubt when you mix this cocktail you and your guests will enjoy a truly remarkable beverage.

The Black Label Old Fashioned

Black Label Old Fashioned

The Black Label Old Fashioned is a cocktail made by muddling sugar with bitters, then adding Johnnie Walker Black Label, and a twist of citrus rind. It is traditionally served in a short, round, tumbler-like glass, which is called an Old Fashioned glass, named after the drink.

The Old Fashioned, developed during the 19th century and given its name in the 1880s, is an IBA Official Cocktail. It is also one of six basic drinks listed in David A. Embury's The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.

  • 1 jigger Johnnie Walker® Black Label® Blended Scotch Whisky
  • 3 dash(es) Angostura Bitters
  • 1 cube(s) Sugar
  • 1 piece(s) Cherry
  • 1 slice(s) Orange
  1. Place a sugar cube in a short glass and add a few dashes of Angostura bitters.

  2. Allow the sugar cube to soak with a few dashes of Angostura bitters. Then use a muddler to press down on the sugar cube and dissolve into the Angostura bitters.

  3. Fill the glass with ice cubes.

  4. Measure 1 jigger of Johnnie Walker Black Label Blended Scotch Whisky and pour into the glass.

  5. Using a chopping board cut a slice of orange with a sharp knife and place on top of the drink with one cherry to garnish.

Johnnie Walker® Black Label Whisky

Enjoy the rich taste of the wonderful scotch whisky stirred down with sugar and Angostura bitters for a classic cocktail with a smoky edge.

Our Bartending School Requirements

Bartending school requirements are very simple. You must be a willing student and have a thirst for bartending. Many people join our school with and without high school diplomas. There is no requirement for a Social Security Card and we do not do background checks. However, many employers will require the aforementioned. Comparatively, we help everyone the same. Our passion is helping people graduate and find bartending jobs!

Criminal Records and Bartending

Everyone makes mistakes. Criminal records and bartending are very similar to other industries. However, many restaurants and bars do not check backgrounds. The best way to determine whether you will be successful is to give us a call. We are not judgmental people nor do we feel it is necessary to pay for your past several times over. Equally, speaking with the potential enrollee before they divvy up their hard earned money is necessary. Many vocational schools will do background checks because they know there is no way for one to obtain a job when finished if they have a record. Conversely, we do not check your record because we feel discrimination is unwarranted. A simple phone call and we will be able to answer whether the enrollee will be successful.

Social Security Cards

It is not necessary for one to possess a Social Security Card to attend our school. Additionally, many contract jobs do not require a Social Security Card. The jobs will be more limited for the person without a Social Security Card. Of course, Riverside Bartending School is here to help everyone who graduates. Riverside Bartending School is not in the business of discriminating against our customers because of a small piece of paper. Please remember it is possible to find work. Conversely, without the proper documents, there is not as much opportunity in the industry.

Picture ID

A picture ID is not totally necessary to attend our bartending school. We would prefer you have a picture ID but we will not decline you to enroll without one. Most of the time we ask you to bring any picture ID with you. This ensures we know who you are when you are entering and exiting the school. Rightfully so, Riverside Bartending School is relaxed with formalities. Our only concern is making sure people who enroll are successful. With a minor amount of effort, we may all collaborate and live/learn together, making our community a great place to be.

Do I Need a Secret Shopper Program

Bar and restaurant owner enjoying the results of our secret shopper program. Many entrepreneurs may ask themselves "Do I need a secret shopper?". One may find themselves asking why. In short, the essential part of any business is security. Additionally, we often see security risks in many facets of restaurants and bars. For example, you may have one employee is misappropriating $25.00 per night, five nights per week. Consequently, they were the cause of you losing $6250.00 annually. Moreover, employees do not realize the gravity of the situation. Similarly, restaurant and bar owners place their financial lives on the line to own and operate their businesses. Understandably, keeping your restaurant or bar secure and high-functioning is the key to staying alive in today's marketplace. We employ many creative tactics to keep your staff honest, reliable, and alert.

Who Works With Our Secret Shopping Program

Riverside Bartending School's secret shopping program has been around for over a decade. A large Southern California Casino was our first customer. Our reports back to the casino were concise and accurate. Furthermore, the relevant information was returned to the casino and helped increase profits in double digits. Shortly after, a former manager in one of the outlets of the casino called us. Hence, the rest is history, and our program is very successful. Currently, we consult or secret shop the corner bar all the way up to some of the most significant venues in Southern California.

Top Earning Bartenders

Top earning bartenders make over $200,000 per year. Similarly, bartenders who possess product knowledge, creativity, and a positive attitude make big bucks.

Riverside Bartending School has several graduates working in VIP lounges in Las Vegas. Moreover, during election years union bartenders are sought after to bartend for political candidates, constituents, and staff members. The pay is unbelievable! Also, tips are astounding! Several top earning bartenders from Riverside Bartending School have several houses, investments in stocks, retirement plans, and a career in bartending.

How is it Done

Over the decades of working in the service industry, one thing separates success from mediocrity. How is it done? Learning to bartend coupled with having a great mentor. In other words, bartending is similar to many careers in life. Finding the right person to guide you to the top is imperative to success. Most top earning bartenders are life-long learners. With a thirst for learning and the motivation, anyone may become a top earner. Equally, creativity is imperative. Some people may think they have zero creativity. Then again, creativity may be learned. Product knowledge is a large factor in gaining creativity. Surprisingly, the more one knows, the more they may cross reference in their brain to come up with creative solutions to challenges at work.

Finding a Mentor

Finding a Mentor is a process. That is to say, picking a quality mentor is a big decision. For example, a bartender making 200K may be mentoring a couple of other bartenders. In this case, the bartender may not have the time. It does not hurt to ask but do not feel bad if the bartender declines.

On the positive side, creating relationships with top earning bartenders is relatively easy. Staying positive and networking with others is a great thing. Moreover, keep learning. Riverside Bartending School is top notch regarding placing graduates in jobs. As a result, we are popular and successful. Albeit, most graduates from Riverside Bartending School will not be starting out making 1K per night. It has happened a few times, but most graduates will not reach that goal until nine months to 3 years after graduation. To be a top earning bartender, one must keep studying.

What to Study After Riverside Bartending School

Top-notch bartenders are employed and find work within so many areas. One could be working at the swanky whiskey bar or the Russian vodka club. For the most part, it depends on where the bartender lands a great job. Additionally, is the bartender motivated to bartend that particular genre?

How Do I Know

One of our graduates worked at a Mexican restaurant for a few months.

Shortly after, she received a job at a Russian vodka club in Los Angeles. She hit the jackpot money wise. Unfortunately, she was not comfortable in that particular atmosphere. As a matter of fact, she gave a six-month run of it. Be it as it may, she had to quit. The bartending job was not for her. None the less, her job at the Mexican restaurant was waiting for her. The point of the story is, she really loved the Mexican restaurant. Moreover, they treated her like family. After speaking with her, she just was not motivated to work with uptight people and having to learn new garnishes every week.

One of the requirements of the job at the Russian vodka bar was learning how to dry apricots, sugar them with powdered sugar, and all this while off shift at your home. Understandably, one might have to weigh the time to money ratio. However, she just enjoyed her time off and did not want to bother with work responsibilities. How much does one want to do off shift for $750 a night?

Most people would do whatever it takes as a bartender for $750 a night. Conversely, to many people, happiness at $275 a night makes sense.

In conclusion, Riverside Bartending School, its owners, and its staff are here to mentor our graduates. If we cannot help the graduate, we will find someone who will.

Our dedicated and professional staff of instructors will provide you with a wealth of knowledge during your individualized bartender training. Also, all instructors at Riverside Bartending School are gainfully employed as bartenders.

Our Training Does Not Stop Upon Graduation

You are always welcome to visit our location. It is critical that, before you spend your money, you visit a school and see what the school is about (we do not recommend enrolling in any school online). Looking good online and training someone to bartend are completely different. Large group instruction with tons of lecture is not the way to teach a bartender. Many schools talk way too much!

Additionally, to get the hands-on and individualized instruction that you need, it is very important that you get behind a real bar with real equipment!

One-on-One Instruction is Vital

One-On-One Instruction is so important because it gives the student the opportunity to extract information in their own way. In a group, one might be afraid of feeling "stupid" or "embarrassed" about asking a question. Our bartending school is the only school where you can come and go as you please and you receive as much One-On-One instruction as you need to become successful!!!

Full-time and on-site instructors provide each student with One-On-One individualized bartending training.

The more knowledge our graduates have, the more profit they make for their future employer. Financially it makes perfect sense for employers to hire our graduates because they are capable of running the bar in a very busy environment. Our graduates always find work as bartenders!

Things Adults Should Never Do in a Bar

Adults should never act like some do in their 20's. When you're in your 20s, the bar's like a big boozy playground, a place where you can grab a few drinks, cut loose, and maybe meet some new friends. Hell, maybe you'll find somebody willing to make sex with you. Or at least someone who will make out with you. Or, barring that, you can just knock back a shot and play Erotic Photo Hunt.

Some behaviors become less acceptable with age and maturity. So, if you were alive last time, the Bears won the Super Bowl (or were conceived to the "Super Bowl Shuffle" that very night), maybe consider these Things Adults Should Never Do in a Bar.

1. Body shots

At this point in your life, you're not pouring a shot in your navel. You're pouring half a goddamned pint in there.

2. Try to hook up with the person celebrating their 21st birthday

That means no buying them a Buttery Nipple. No talking to them about your 21st birthday revelry. And certainly no talking about how they remind you of your oldest kid.

Photo booth make-out session
Daniel Fishel/Thrillist

 3. Make out in a photo booth

Do you want photographic evidence of yourself slobbering on a stranger in a small box in which other people salivate and drool on strangers? Who are you even going to share that with? Please, please don't say Facebook.

 4.  Make out anywhere else

Unless, you know, you're in a swingers bar. Most of those people are well over 30.

 5. Steal glassware

Be a goddamned adult and grab your glassware from IKEA.

 6. Twerk, grind, or otherwise thrust your pelvis

Nope, not even ironically.

 7. The worm

The number of serious back injuries and broken noses that result from post-30 worm attempts would shock you.

 8. Preemptively buy prophylactics from a bathroom vending machine

If you're over 30 and planning a bar pickup, you might want to load your wallet with something that isn't covered in powder and studs and wrapped in a nude picture of a '70s porn star.

Pee Pee McGee, doing what he knows best
Daniel Fishel/Thrillist

 9. Pee on or in anything that's not a toilet

This rule includes the alleys, sinks, and your pants.

10. Complain about the music on the jukebox

You know what every bar has? Some dude who sits there all night and complains about anything that comes on the jukebox that was released after Third Eye Blind's self-titled debut/masterpiece. That guy's usually called "that old asshole."

11. Ask if they can change the game to Longmire

Yes, the reviews in TV Guide are great and all, but the kids these days just don't get the slow-paced nuances. Wait until you're home to watch it after that nice neighbor kid shows you how to work the TV.

12. Crop dust

Just own it. Most of the Millennials in the place don't drink Metamucil, so you can't pass your fiber farts off on them anyway. So just let 'er rip and enjoy the extra room around you.

13. Challenge strangers to a drinking contest

Unless you meet Marion Ravenwood, who clearly has a thing for older dudes and will also drink you under the table. But she'll also help you find the Ark, so . . ..

14. Fall asleep

Keep your eyes open at all times, gramps, because watching you nod off at 6 pm in a booth is making everyone feel like they're drinking in a nursing home. You can fall asleep later during Longmire.

15. Eat food off somebody else's table

Because dirt-bagging a handful of cold tater tots off a stranger's table is a younger man's game. You can buy your own.

Shirtless man in a bar
Daniel Fishel/Thrillist

16. Be shirtless

Or pantsless. Or shoeless. Nobody wants to see that. Or smell that.

17. Forget your credit card

When you're younger, you look naive. When you're older, you start to appear like a grifter played by Mickey Rourke in some horrifying Bukowski adaptation. And not Barfly either. Like, old Mickey Rourke. The Mickey with the Chihuahua and droopy eye and no credit card.

18. Get kicked out

Again, Mickey Rourke. Post-Wrestler. Get it together, man.

19. Punch someone

You know what they love in the county jail? Elvis Presley music. Just kidding. It's dickheads who get arrested for punching people in bars but don't have the stamina to run away immediately afterward.

20. Wait in line to get in

See the giant dude with the clipboard at the end of the line? He's got a list of individuals to let in. You're probably not on it. And guess what? It's not worth it anyway.

21. Vomit

When you were younger, this might have been something you could cover up with a hard swallow and a handful of mints and an utterance of "it went down the wrong pipe." Now? It's like a lawn sprinkler stuffed with bits of tater tots you took off somebody's table. If you're a puker, your drinking partner should be Longmire.

22. Cry publicly

At least go in the bathroom and weep alone in the dark like an adult.

A vapist vaping in a bar
Daniel Fishel/Thrillist

23. Vape

Even though vaping is way safer than cigarettes, and "second hand" vaping is not harmful at all, you still should respect the others in the bar and refrain from vaping.

Architect and Design Pros During A Build Out

Architects and Design Professionals are a critical part of any restaurant or bar build out. For this reason, it cannot be emphasized enough; you will likely need a specialist in both fields. Architect and design pros are invaluable in their respective trades.

For example, a restaurant and a bar may look very nice, fit the demographic, and customers may love the establishment. Conversely, the flow of the facility may be horrible regarding ergonomics. An inefficient bar will cause a massive loss of gross sales. Additionally, a poorly designed bar will never be able to reach the sweet spot of profit.

To summarize, if you are planning to build a restaurant or a bar, let our experienced architects and design professionals experts take care of the design phase. Proper attention during the early stages of your project will save you money over the long haul.

We Know the Right Architects

We have been a part of many build outs and dealt with many architects and designers. Our Riverside County architects and designers have decades of experience. Also, they have completed many jobs in the local community.

architect and design pros at the build site making sure the job is correct.

We know the right professionals for your project, and they do a great job. They understand the flow of a restaurant and a bar. Furthermore, mistakes in design because of a lack of knowledge is not an issue. In detail, unless they know their money spent will bring significant returns, it is painstaking for a business person to part with their funds. For this reason, there is one firm we deal with and the owner is the principle architect. Notably, he answers his phone, and he proofs every project. Most importantly, he pays attention to detail.

Choosing Your Local Bartending School?

local bartending school is now openChoosing your local bartending school is a critical decision. Often, we reflect, and we wish we would have made a different decision.

If you are asking yourself: what's the closest bartending school near me or where is the closest bartending school. You are not alone. The term bartending school near me is one of the most frequent searches on the Internet for people looking for bartending schools. Let's dive into the thought processes of the consumer.

Convenience of a Local Bartending School is a Huge Factor

Hence the very often used term "bartending school near me" when searching for bartending schools in your area. What if someone were to say "Education is the key to your success" or "The more effort you put into something, the bigger the reward"? The last statements may seem cliche, but there is some truth to these claims.

Rather than finding the closest bartending school, look for the quality bartending school. Within reason, distance is not an issue. For example, driving 20 miles to go to school rather than 8 miles. Not convenient but ensuring success by driving further is enticing.

What's So Special About Riverside Bartending School

As a reader, you may be asking what's so special about Riverside Bartending School.

  1. We provide our students with a quality education.
  2. When Riverside quotes a price to customers before they come into the school, it is always "all-inclusive."
  3. The all-inclusive price also includes everything you need to know to be a bartender at a high-volume bar:

The Other Bartending School Was Closer To Me

Learn from the best, Riverside Bartending School is the best school near youOn average Riverside Bartending School hears "The other bartending school was closer" about 5 or 6 times a month. People enroll in a local bartending school sometimes because it is closer to their home. A handful of those people come to our school asking if we can help them find a job. The owner and the staff at Riverside feel horrible when this happens.

Unfortunately, if the person in question wants a bartending job, they must pay for our school and train with us. It is imperative that graduates are well trained. We have a reputation with more than 400 restaurants and bars. They depend on our graduates to know and run the bar in a high-volume atmosphere.

Come On; It's Just Bartending School

We have heard many people say, "Come on; it's just bartending school, " but we politely disagree. Comparatively, owners and managers are seeking bartenders who know their profession. In short, a well-trained bartender is the most profitable employee on the floor in the front of the house (the portion of the bar or restaurant serving the public). "Come on; it's just bartending" is not going to get you hired.

Conversely, learning to OWN that bar with excellent skills is the fastest way to great success. Bartending is a business and owners and managers are in business to make a profit. Without profit comes the "Out of Business" sign on the front door. Bar owners want and need prepared bartenders, not pretenders.

To summarize, a bartender has the responsibility to be fast in times of a rush. Moreover, they must up-sell alcohol, suggestive sell alcohol, and be creative to increase business. Riverside Bartending School will provide with all the tools necessary to perform these duties. Furthermore, we offer unsurpassed job placement and assistance, which guarantees you a job.

Online Enrollment

Online registration for any vocational school is a crap shoot. Riverside Bartending School has a theory. The theory about online enrollment is relatively simple. Why would I want to part with my hard earned money without looking at the school and meeting the staff?

Riverside is open per the hours listed on this website, and people are always welcome to come and visit with us. Most people have intuition. We invite anyone wanting to become a successful/professional bartender to come over to the school and take a look. If you feel right about the school, you may enroll anytime our school is open. The open door policy is the best policy. Do the research, ask questions, and a future of success will follow.

A Few Quotes From Intelligent People

Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.

Albert Einstein

Ask not what you can do for your bartending school, ask what your bartending school will do for you.

OK, we are not that funny but we will teach you how to ROCK THE BAR!

Online Bartending School

The food and beverage industry do not view Online Bartending Schools as legitimate bartending schools. These schools are more of a novelty than an avenue for obtaining a bartending job. In spite of this, many intellectual people feel they are capable of learning by watching a video. However, videos do not provide hand-eye coordination and muscle reaction to particular sensibilities. Moreover, properly trained bartenders receive a drink order, and they do not think about the ingredients. Highly trained bartenders only reach for the appropriate bottles and pour. They truly have bartending nailed.

no online bartending school can ensure that you can properly shake a drink

Online Bartending Schools

An online bartending school is typically very inexpensive. Of course, the old cliche, "You get what you pay for" applies. If one were to watch someone snowboarding in a video would one become a great snowboarder? Additionally, if one wanted to learn how to drive an 18 wheeler or fly an airplane, would one learn to do that by watching a video? I can see it now, "Become a Pilot Online." The thought process behind doing well with anything physical is to practice the tasks you will be required to perform on the job.

Finding a Bartending Job

The goal and teaching model of Riverside Bartending School are to help our graduates earn a bartending job. Most people searching for a bartending school are searching for a school that will follow through with bartending job placement assistance. It stands to reason that an owner or a manager is going to hire the bartender with the most to offer. In most cases, an owner or a manager will want the bartender who is capable of keeping sales the same or increasing sales. Conversely, the owner or manager will likely not hire someone who costs them sales. A loss of sales creates less profitability for the establishment; therefore, it is crucial for graduates to be bartending not pretending.

Is Bartending School Worth It

An entirely honest analysis to answer the question "Is bartending school worth it." Because you are on a website for a bartending school, you may feel it is a waste of time to read on. However, the information on this page will be as unbiased as possible.

Bartending Schools

Professional and well trained male female bartenders serving cocktailsThere are a few bartending schools throughout the nation that have a reputation in their communities as being "The Place to Go." Conversely, the majority of bartending schools need to step it up if they want the bartending school industry to stay healthy.

Indeed, a perfect world would have excellent bartending schools, and none would be shabby. Perhaps the poor schools would like to do the right job. Yes, it's true, I believe a large portion of the schools nationwide would increase their curriculum if it were viable to do so.

The problem lies within most states (except California). Most states have a Department of Education or their Bureau for Private and Postsecondary Vocational Education (governmental oversight agency for vocational schools). The names of the regulatory oversight agencies vary. I used the two names above as an example of what most states call the agency governing vocational schools. At any rate, those governing bodies rule with an iron fist. These actions, cause improvements to a school's curriculum to be a nasty mess of governmental red tape. For that reason, California is very relaxed, and changes to the curriculum are not an issue.

Bartending Schools in California

To clarify, bartending schools in California may create any curriculum they desire. In fact, you would think all bartending schools in California would step up and do the right job. Unfortunately, the old school of thought with old school players in the bartending school industry still runs rampant.

More to Come

To illustrate what is happening I am creating some posts for you, the consumer, to read at your leisure. Some of the opinions expressed in the readings under "Is Bartending School Worth It" may be offensive to some. That is to say, "some" bartending school owners. The goal of these posts is to educate the consumer. This information will assist you to make an informed decision about attending Riverside Bartending School, a different bartending school, or working your way up to the position of bartender. However, working your way up is probably the worst decision anyone can make. Please read the posts on this site, and I will explain this in detail.

Bartending not Pretending

The phrase Bartending not Pretending summarizes what a bartender should know. With a lot of information on the Internet, we want to share our thoughts. A bartender is the profit outlet for their bar owner. The series Bartending, not Pretending will stimulate the minds of bartenders everywhere.

Many things make a professional bartender. Sure, pouring cocktails, and knowing some beer and wine is essential. Well trained professional bartenders may work in nearly any establishment. Also, after just a short amount of internal training at a new job, a professional bartender's sales will be excellent. SALES is the most important part of a bartender's job.

I am Bartending, not a Pretending

As part of my preparation, I know my menus 100%, and I have change for customers. Specifically, I cut my garnishes, placed the beer on ice, and sorted the kegs. Additionally, the key holder to the "booze room" (usually the manager) has my list of "nearly out of booze" bottles.
bartending not pretending is what you learn to do at Riverside Bartending School

I stocked my bar caddy with everything I need. The bar is clean. I have my bartending tools, and I have double checked everything. Moreover, I am at work because my boss hired me to make a profit. I know my liquor, beer, and my wine. Bartenders are happy to be at work. Nightly, I have a new opportunity to impress my boss. Similarly, tonight is a chance to break my last sales record.

In the same way, every shift is a new opportunity to break the record of tips I have ever made in a shift.

Real Bartenders Are The Most Successful

Real bartenders commanding the best jobs and money follow the above mantra. The most successful bartenders have a positive aura about them.

Very rarely is a bartender in demand for the hottest night club or the ritzy restaurant if they have a negative attitude. Keeping a positive mindset is a must. When you are being paid to have fun, keeping a positive mindset is REALLY easy!

If you live in Southern California and bartending sounds like something you are interested in, Riverside Bartending School is likely your best option. So why wait?

Prepared Bartenders Are In Demand

Prepared bartenders are in demand. All professional bartenders prepare for the rush of customers and are ready to perform as a high volume bartender. A bartender that is ready and able can sell 50 to 100% more than a bartender who lacks preparation. Because of this, once you graduate from Riverside Bartending School, you will be well trained and prepared.

A well trained and prepared bartender will:

  • Check the booze on hand behind the bar, and
  • Make a list of the bottles they think they will need during their shift.

A young prepared professional bartender

Typically, the booze is not readily available during a shift. It is locked usually locked up in a booze room and accessible only to the manager. Consequently, if the booze gets low during the shift, a manager must be found to provide the additional stock.

A professional and prepared bartender can estimate how much booze they will need during their shift.

Which means, after an initial inventory they can hand the manager a list of what they will need. The bartender's preparation must take place before the club starts poppin'.

Unopened bottles are returned to the manager once the bartender's shift is over. Having the bottle removed from the booze room in advance saves a significant amount of grief during a rush.

Top professional bartenders also prepare by making sure the following is in stock and within reach:

  • straws,
  • napkins,
  • toothpicks, and
  • coasters.

Process of preparing a cocktail bartender's from passion fruits

Also, they determine the likelihood of the need to change a beer keg during their shift. A quick trip to the walk-in cooler to make sure the replacement keg is ready and available. During the rush, any extra time needed to get the keg out of the cooler only results in fewer sales.

Because They are Bartending Not Pretending

The smart and prepared bartender also brings their bar bag full of the necessary tools. They have all the tools of the trade and nothing is missing. Many of us, have worked in bars where the bartender from the previous shift is sloppy.  Some even take the bartending tools home with them. This behavior leaves the next bartender to fend for themselves. That is a terrible night, trust me. It's sad when you are using the side of the bar, or a lighter, to open beers for customers. At Riverside Bartending School we train our students to become high volume professional bartenders, and upon graduation, we provide unbeaten job placement assistance.prepared bartenders are money makers

Anheuser Busch is the topic of this installment in the "Did You Know?" series. This will be information about the world of spirits. I will be featuring a different spirit in each "Did You Know" blog.

Beer is a food product and does have a shelf life. Anheuser Busch Beers packaged in bottles and cans has a shelf life of 110 days from the born on date printed on each can and bottle of Anheuser Busch beers. Draft beer from Anheuser Busch is 50 days from the born on date.

Can & Bottled beer is pasteurized. Draft Beer is not, so draft must be kept cold at all times.

Foam head is a good thing. Beer poured down the side of the glass eliminating the foam head will make the beer look flat and unappealing. It will make the beer taste gassy and will fill you up faster.

A half-barrel of beer holds 15.5 gallons and yields 154 servings. Drawing a beer down the side of the glass eliminating the foam head only will serve about 124 servings. That is a large loss in servings and profits as well.

Funny Story About Jagermeister

Here is a funny story about Jagermeister. Actually, the story has a rather brutal ending. In respect for the true names we shall use ghost names.

Stephanie, a seasoned bartender decided to take New Years Eve off by calling in sick. Obviously, Stephanie was not sick bit she decided she was going to party for New Years. Stephanie was scheduled to work with another bartender named Scott. Scott was furious when Stephanie called in sick. After all, Scott was the lead bartender and responsible for making sure sales were excellent.

With only one bartender, sales will slump if the bar is crowded. Comparatively, two bartenders are always able to sell more alcohol than one bartender in the period of busy times. Conversely, Scott was happy for himself because less bartenders means more tips. Anyway, Scott worked the night and made $1175.00 in tips. However, Scott's boss was less than happy due to a 30% less than projected night of bar sales.

When Stephanie returned to work she was fired. One might ask why? Surprisingly, Stephanie knocked her tooth out doing a Jager Bomb out of a pint glass. She did not have the money to fix her tooth. Additionally, her boss lost $2600.00 in gross sales because of Stephanie's absence. Her boss told her "Its not because you called in sick and went partying, although its a factor. Its because you do not have a front tooth."

The moral of the story? Missing teeth must be addressed immediately. Stephanie had a new bartending job a few days after fixing the tooth. However, she was not quick to brag about the ordeal to others.
